Spring is in full bloom, and so are the Cake Smash photo sessions! As a photographer specializing in first birthday portraits, I’ve been absolutely swamped with these adorable, messy sessions. I love the simplicity of the plain white backdrop and rustic looking cakes. Highlighting the adorable features of each little one without distractions of props and backdrops showcases your little one. Ordering a “naked cake” from a local bakery like this one is usually easiest and most cost effective.
One thing that remains consistent throughout all of these sessions is the pure joy and excitement that the little ones bring to the studio. Watching them dive into their first taste of cake is a sight to behold, and it’s my job to capture every moment of it. From the moment they see the cake, to the messy aftermath, each moment is precious and deserving of being documented forever. Little hands and sugary mouths are details I love to capture.
While the sessions are certainly fun, they do require a lot of preparation and cleanup. But it’s all worth it to see the smiles and laughter of both the child and her parents when they see the final images. I provide all backdrops and props. Your only job is to provide the cake and wardrobe.
Despite the busyness and chaos that comes with these sessions, it’s always a pleasure to be a part of such an important milestone for both the child and her family. Capturing these moments is truly a privilege, and I’m grateful for each and every one of them. So many of these sessions are repeat clients. I’ve had the opportunity to capture their newborn photos as well. It is SO MUCH FUN to catch up!
As spring continues on, I look forward to more Cake Smash sessions and the memories that will come with them. Working so closely with new and returning families is what makes my job special. It’s such a joy!
